Jonah’s 6 Month Stats

A bit late, but here they are… Jonah’s growth stats from his 6 month check-up:
Height: 27″ – 75%
Weight: 16 lbs. 5 oz – 25%
Head circumference: 17.25″ – 50%

At this point, he’s almost as big as Anna was at 12 months! I’m betting he’ll surpass her by his 9 month check-up. He’s army crawling and babbling much like the Tasmanian devil these days. Just like his big sister, he can’t sit still or stay quiet for more than 3 seconds.

I had a whole list of funny things Anna has been saying lately that I was planning on posting, but I can’t seem to find it now. She has an extremely vivid imagination… several imaginary friends and lots of pretend play happening around here. When I find the list (and some time :) I’ll post Anna’s funny sayings.

Four months already!

Jonah’s 4 month check-up was this morning. Man, I thought time went by fast before he came along… I had no idea it could go by so much faster! He’s already rolling over and working on some teeth… pretty soon he’ll be chasing after Anna and I won’t be able to keep up with either one of them.

His latest stats:
height: 25.75″ / 75%
weight: 14 lbs. 8.5 oz. / 50%
head circumference: 16.75″ / 50%

So he’s heading into more reasonable territory for a child of a Lightner and a Stchur. Except for height… I suspect that will work it’s way down at some point as well, but we’ll see! Maybe he’ll end up being 6 feet like my Grandad.

Anna played the role of big sister perfectly at the check-up. She held his hand and told him to be brave for his shots. It didn’t really work, but it was very sweet to watch.

Tiny Dancer

Anna’s first dance class was this morning. She was so excited before class and ran around collecting her clothes that she wanted to change into once class was over. She requested two ponytails, two barrettes and a headband so her hair would be out of the way while she danced.

We got there and found out that the kids are supposed to go into class without Mama. Oh boy. She went in and I stayed for a minute. Then I left and sat outside the big glass window so I could watch and she could see me and Jonah. As soon as the teacher – Miss Chelsea – looked at Anna, her hands went up over her face, she burst into tears and I could see her calling for me. So I went in and sat with her for a bit while she watched the other girls dance. Well, almost all of them – a few others had similar issues.

About halfway through class and after many, many pep talks and lots of excuses (I’m tired! I’m hungry! I’m shy! I want to go home and watch a show, eat a snack and take a nap!) she finally decided to try the jumping routine as long as I held her hand. I helped her through a few things and then noticed Jonah fussing out in the Mama area. So I left to go feed him. She came to the door once and asked me to come in and I explained that I couldn’t come in while I was feeding Jonah. Surprisingly, she was fine with that and went back to class and followed Miss Chelsea’s instructions for the rest of the class. While we were walking out to the car, she declared, “That was so much fun!” I asked her if she wanted to go back next week and she enthusiastically said yes. Phew!

This is really frustrating for me because this round of separation anxiety is brand new. She used to have no problem with me leaving her at the grocery store playland while I shopped. Now the thought of doing that terrifies her. And she was all excited when I signed her up for Adventure Kids (a drop-in daycare type place). I was excited too: some quiet time… what should I do with myself?!? Whenever I mention taking her there, she says she doesn’t want to go unless I go with her. I hope this is just a temporary result of all the big changes in her life – moving to a new house, becoming a big sister, transitioning out of naps, and … oh yeah, turning three (which is apparently a challenging age so far!)

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos this morning since I was busy encouraging her, dancing with her and then feeding Jonah. Here’s hoping next week will be a bit smoother and I’ll have some photos to post!

Check up day!

Today was check up day for both kiddos and as usual, they are doing wonderfully. Anna is still teeny-tiny and Jonah is huge! Dr. Dave said if Anna continues to grow in this same pattern (obviously it could change, so it’s not totally accurate), she’ll end up 5’3″. Taller than me, woohoo!

The goods on Anna at 3 years:
Height: 35.75″ – 25%
Weight: 26 lbs. – 10%

And Jonah at 2 months:
Height: 24″ – 80%
Weight: 12 lbs. 8 oz. – 75%
Head Circumference: 15.75″ – 50%

So a few more ounces and Jonah will be half of Anna’s weight already. I’m guessing he’ll outweigh her by the time he’s 18 months…

Oops… belated stats

Anna and Jonah both have check ups tomorrow afternoon, so I’ve been thinking about and wondering just how big Mr. Jonah has gotten in the past 2 months. And I realized I neglected to post his 2 weeks stats after that check up. (Actually he was only 10 days old… we took him in early to fix up his belly button.)
Anyway, at a week and a half, his stats were:
Height: 21.25″ (apparently their measuring is a bit off from the hospital’s): 75%
Weight: 8 lbs, 13 oz: 50%
Head circumference: 14.5″: 50%

I’ll be back tomorrow to post both kid’s updated stats if I can remember!

Welcome Jonah!

I’m sure everyone knows by now – at least I hope so – that Jonah Stchur has finally arrived into the world. He was born at 6:53 am on January 18th and weighed a whopping 8 lbs, 11 oz and was 22″ long. For those of you keeping track, that’s 2 lbs and 2 inches bigger than Anna was! No wonder everyone thought I was humongous while I was pregnant! I have no idea how little old me had enough room in there for such a big baby…

He’s here and healthy and we (especially big sister Anna) are all in love with him. Now if we could just get some sleep!

Photos

I was just about to upload a bunch of photos from the past month and a half (I’m so far behind…) and I’m not sure where they’re going at this point. I will have Steve investigate and hopefully fix it soon! I will put some on Facebook for the time being.

I suppose while I’m sitting here typing, I should post an update. Things have been crazy busy for the past few months … between us moving and remodeling our new (old) house, me being hugely and uncomfortably pregnant and Anna being a bundle of energy that never slows down! If the dishes and laundry get done it’s been a productive day.

Anyway, hopefully the photos will be fixed in time for pictures of our new little one and his big sister.

A few Videos

I posted these videos on facebook a couple of weeks ago, but just for Grandma and Grandpa, here you go:

Why?

Anna has starting asking, “Why?”

I believe that’s all I need to say.

According to Anna

This will be the first of hopefully many installments of “According to Anna.” In an effort to post more regularly on this all too neglected blog of mine and to remember the funny, sweet and silly things Anna says as she explores her new world of language, I plan to collect the memorable things she says over the course of a given day(s) and write them down here. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Here are a few to get us started:

This evening while brushing her teeth:
“Ohhhh, I foogot my bisset.” (Translation: I forgot my bracelet) Steve and I were pretty impressed with her use of I and my in the same sentence.

The other day in the car:
“Peetend E-E carseat.” (Pretend Ethan (our neighbor) is in the other carseat, since he often rides with us to playdates, etc.)

“I heaw Dada cough-ing.” (Heaw = hear)

“I yike it – Dada song!” (yike = like)

“Layu much, Mama.” (Layu = Love you) Yes, that one is my favorite :)

“No doggie eat my sack!” (sack = snack) Speaking of snacks, man is she crazy for snacks! For the past week or so the first thing she says when she wakes up in the morning is “snack!”

“Eat oatmit cook tummy hoort.” (She has a habit of snacking on her oatmeal flakes while the water boils… so I told her she’d get a tummy-ache if she ate the oatmeal before it is cooked. So now she says that while she sneaks little bits.)

“Walk doggie forst, den E-E howse.” (She is very into talking about the order of our activities for the day. Usually it involves walking Guinness first and then doing something with Ethan, so she says this version a lot.)

The other night while telling Steve about her day:
“Opeh-shut, paygound, gocies, car-cart, drive, E-E.” (That’s: Open-shut (that’s what she calls story time at the library because of a certain song the librarian always sings), playground, groceries, you can probably figure out the rest… they had a great time driving that car-cart!)

That’s about all my Mommy-brain can come up with for now. Stay tuned for more!
